The Inside (the Shelter) Story

When Roey Shoshan went to Israel last June for his brother’s wedding, nobody expected all the extracurricular fireworks from Israel being attacked. Roey will share his story as the Table Lodge speaker for our Sept. 16 OLM – and he may have a couple of guest storytellers who were in the country at the same time. 

Originally from Petach Tikva, Israel, Roey put his political science degree from Bar Ilan University to work as a TV sports producer and a sideline reporter for 10 years. But after a successful summer at Camp Barney, he moved to Atlanta in 2011 to join the MJCCA, where he worked six years as assistant director of youth sports and director of the young adults department. 

After the JCC, Roey went to work for the Jewish Federation as the Israel and Overseas Director, leading mission trips to Israel, supervising the allocation process to Israel from Atlanta and putting together community events. From there, he spent three years in Athens (GA) as executing director of the Hillel at UGA, growing the program and securing a generous grant from the Marcus foundation that helped purchase what is now the new Hillel building. Today Roey is back at the JCC as the Senior Director of Philanthropic Engagement. 

A BIG sports fan, Roey goes back to Israel twice a year to visit his family.
