Bezalel-JWV Hanukkah Party a Success

Our 2nd Annual Hanukkah party with Jewish War Veterans Post 112 was a success on many fronts.

We had nearly 100 people in attendance, and we raised $734 in donations for HOD's campaign to deliver two Ambucars to United Hatzallah, Israel's largest EMS organization. (See the article below for more details - and consider making a donation.)

At risk of leaving out anybody, special thanks go to Worthy Bros Henry Levine, David Weinberger, Stan Schnitzer, Craig Varon and Joel Rosenfield and Bros Bruce Rosenblum, Marty Cohen and Robert Max for all the work they did to prepare and serve the food and drink, run our 50/50 raffle and clean up afterward. Click here for our photo gallery.

We now have a new process for making payments with Zelle to Lodge Bezalel. We've replaced Bro Mark Gaynor's cell phone with a new email address: treasurerhodbezalel@gmail.com.

The new process is in effect now. You can also use the email address for all treasurer-related correspondence with Mark.

IPP WB Ryan Simmons worked with Mark to set up the new email address.

A Guy Walks Into a Bar...

Not just any guy walks into a bar and finds stories that make him a spirited spirits writer. Rafi Kohan, our May OLM Table Lodge speaker and raconteur, is not just any guy who walks into a bar. He's a writer who developed both his career and his enthusiasm for alcohol - and the stories that go with every bottle - by walking into bars and liquor stores and asking: "So, what's new?" Lodges Present $200,000 Check to IDF Widows & Orphans Fund

The Hebrew Order of David Foundation, comprised of the 23 HOD Lodges worldwide, presented a check for $200,000 to the IDF Widows & Orphans Fund, Sunday, Nov. 3, during the installation ceremonies for Atlanta’s four Lodges. The check represents the latest results in an ongoing campaign to fund an endowment for educations for widows and orphans of fallen servicemen of the IDF, police officers, and other security personnel.

Since Oct 7, 2023, the number of widows and children who have lost one or both parents has increased by more than 750. Among IDFWO’s numerous programs and support initiatives, annual scholarships are a crucial component to foster the academic and personal growth of widows and adult orphans within the organization.

HOD leaders in North America began working with a network of benefactors this past summer to set up a program to match HOD donations to IDFWO dollar for dollar. In the process, they established the HOD Foundation to better manage donations for this and other causes.

You can donate now to the Hebrew Order of David International Endowment Fund, administered by the IDF Widows and Orphans Organization in Israel.

The Atlanta Jewish Times published this article about the check presentation in Atlanta.

The Jewish Voice of Houston published this article about the HOD initiative.

Through campaigns to support IDFWO, Birthright Israel and United Hatzalah, HOD Lodges have raised more than $800,000 over the past year.

    See the Savoy Automobile Museum;
    Special Guided Tour - Feb. 15. 2026

We've arranged a special guided tour of the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, starting at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15 . You'll get insights into the cars on display.

If we can get a group of 10 or more, the cost of the tickets, including tax, will be $16.05. If we have less than 10 people, the cost of the tickets, including tax is $18.19. You can stay at the museum all day; hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum will have three special exhibits running during our visit:

Ferrari in America – December 9, 2025 – March 29, 2026 – When you hear the word Ferrari, you think of Italy.  Just the sound alone of the engine running is an unquestionable pleasure.

Car Tunes – January 13, 2026 – 5/3/2026 – Music and driving go hand in hand. This exhibit features various iconic cars featured from various eras, each associated with a specific song or tune.

Corvette “The Early Years” – C1 to C3 – February 3, 2026 – May 31, 2026 – The Corvette is one of America’s most influential sports cars. This exhibit will feature some of the iconic early designs focusing on the C1-C3 years.

The museum has a collection of 100 cars, although not all are on the floor at any one time. You can learn more by visiting their website: https://savoymuseum.org/

Learn How CAC (and You) Serves Northern Perimeter

We’ll have a great meal at our Table Lodge following our Feb. 20 OLM. We always do. Not everyone will be as fortunate, but you can learn how the Community Assistance Center (CAC) takes a holistic approach to preventing hunger and homelessness among our neighbors in need.

And you might learn how we, as a lodge or individual, can help from our Table Lodgepresenter, Jessica Heidish, Volunteer Manager at CAC. Jessica manages all things "volunteer," including engaging and orienting new volunteers, bringing in volunteer groups, organizing group projects, planning for event volunteers, as well as organizing speaking engagements and other community events.

Before joining CAC, Jessica spent 3-1/2 years as the Volunteer Manager at North Fulton Community Charities and close to 10 years in volunteer engagement with Foresters Financial. She also spent several years working as a corporate recruiter.

Jessica has lived in the Atlanta suburbs for long enough that she almost feels like a native Atlantan, but she actually grew up in central Florida and is a proud Florida Gator. (She knows she’s walking into a Dawg House.)

    About CAC
CAC is the largest human services organization serving Atlanta’s Northern Perimeter. Supported by more than 400 dedicated monthly volunteers and a strong network of community, corporate, and congregational partners, CAC has been a trusted community resource since 1987. CAC plays a vital role in keeping our community stable by helping families and individuals facing financial hardships due to job loss, medical crises, or family separation.

CAC takes a holistic approach to preventing hunger and homelessness among our neighbors in need. They help clients meet immediate needs and build long-term stability through programs that provide food, clothing, and financial assistance, as well as youth programs, adult education, career services, and free tax preparation.

In 2024, CAC assisted nearly 10,000 individuals, distributed almost one million pounds of food (the equivalent of 800,000 meals), provided $190,000 in clothing vouchers to our Canopy Thrift Store, and helped prevent more than 1,000 evictions.

Lodge Bezalel and HOD in the community

Lodge Bezalel of The Hebrew Order of David International (HOD), a Jewish fraternal organization, recently presented a check to support the K-9 Unit of the Cobb County Police Department. The money was raised through Lodge Bezalel’s participation in the annual Atlanta Kosher BBQ Festival, held in the fall at Brook Run Park, Dunwoody. [Read More]
