May 17 OLM - Informal and Informative
Join us for something different at our May 17 OLM at Congregation Or Hadash, 7460 Trowbridge Road, Sandy Springs.
Festivities start at 7 p.m. with snacks and schmoozing, followed by dinner with a meet & greet and a presentation by Bro. Paul Flexner on volunteer opportunities available for working with voter registration and election monitoring. This will be strictly nonpartisan and a chance for you to decide on your own commitment.
We're also using this meeting as a way to introduce vetted candidates for membership to our lodge brethren. They can find out what we're all about and who we are.
More About Our Program
Voting as an American Value
Over the past few generations, the turnout of voters on Election Day has dropped significantly until the record turnouts in 2018 and more so in 2020. As part of our Community Service agenda, it is important that we engage in the election process through an active role in “Getting Out the Vote”.
In this short presentation, a description of the various ways in which you are able to engage in the election process, without regard to your party affiliation or political preferences. We can all volunteer to:
Make phone calls
Knock on doors
Hand out leaflets
Become Poll Workers
Become Poll Observers or Watchers
Register the unregistered to Vote
Information will be provided on how to connect with those organizations that are actively engaged in signing people up to do all of these activities. The goal will be for us as a Lodge to do what we can to increase the turnout of voters on election day, during early voting and through absentee voting. Opportunities for participation in these activities are organized both by the major State Party organizations and by non-profit/non-partisan groups.
For the last decade and even at various stages in his earlier life, Paul has volunteered to work on political campaigns – mostly on the Democratic side. However, for this presentation, all of that will be put aside. For this presentation, the focus will be on NON-Partisan activities. Over the past few years, Paul has participated actively in Registering Voters in High Schools, on university campuses, in Independent Living facilities and in other settings. He has served as a Poll Watcher in Dekalb, Fulton and Cobb Counties. Paul also served as a counter for the official recount of the 2020 Presidential election in Dekalb County and an observer for the second recount.
Registration is extremely important. We want to make sure nobody goes hungry - especially our guests.
